St. Charles man dies in Iowa crash
LECLAIRE, Iowa — Iowa State Police confirmed today that a St. Charles man is dead after a fiery crash involving four vehicles Monday night on Interstate 80 in eastern Iowa.
James Daly, 61, of St. Charles died in the accident that happened about 6:15 p.m. Monday in the eastbound lanes near LeClaire. It involved two semitrailers, a minivan and a car. Some of the vehicles burst into flames.
Daly's wife, Barbara, 63, was driving their vehicle and was injured in the crash. State police said she was taken to the east campus of the Genesis Medical Center in Davenport, Iowa. Her condition is unknown at this time.
Troopers say the accident happened when a semitrailer hit a line of vehicles stopped on the interstate at a construction zone.
The truck hit the rear of the car, pushing it into a ditch. The semi then hit the rear of the van, pushing the van into another semitrailer. The first truck ended up in the median.
The crash closed the interstate for several hours.
