A little more on East's gym

The target date for the St. Charles East girls volleyball team to play its first true home match this season is Sept. 29 against Waubonsie Valley, East AD Jerry Krieg said on Friday.

As the Chronicle reported earlier this week, the Saints are shifting their early-season home matches to Wredling Middle School or St. Charles North as repairs are made to the school's warped gym floor.

Krieg said he's not sure what caused the problems to the floor but said it is "a moisture issue."

"I was in there today and it looks like it's coming great," Krieg said of the repairs. "It's going to look like a brand-new floor."

East's gym classes are making use of the school's fieldhouse, swimming pool and wrestling room when doing indoor activities.

As for tonight's season opening football game with Geneva, Krieg is expecting a hefty turnout. Norris Stadium can seat about 5,000 fans.

"We hope that there's a lot of orange," Krieg said.
