Draw!

Sports has a way of evening things out. They're called ties.

On Tuesday, the Batavia girls tennis team tied Wheaton North in a non-conference road dual thanks in large part to the eight-match structure set forth by Falcons' coach Rick Rateike. The Bulldogs needed a rally in the seldom-seen slot of No. 4 doubles to break even, with Erika Connolly and Lauren Berczynski outlasting their opponents for a wild, 7-5, 2-6, 7-5 victory.

The duo rattled off 15 straight points to capture the third set after squandering a 3-0 lead.

"Anytime we can have more kids count towards the score, the better," Batavia coach Brad Nelson said, "but I'm still not a big fan of setting yourself up for a tie."

That possibility will exist Thursday when the Bulldogs travel to Rosary, as Royals coach John Tsang has set up a two singles-four doubles match. Batavia (3-0-1) enters play with an unbeaten record.
