Can't be Batavia-Geneva, East-North every week
On paper, Week 3 ain't the most glamorous one around these parts.
Good thing the bands, concession stand food and fanfare of high school football never takes a week off because we could be in for a few more yawners than usual this week.
Geneva is going to batter Yorkville, and St. Charles North will do the same to East Aurora. Sly thinks St. Charles East will win comfortably against Streamwood, even tho the Saints might not score enough to make the final as messy.
Batavia and Kaneland are the teams to watch this week in Sly's book.
An upset over Glenbard South would be huuuuuge for the Dogs but Sly doesn't see it happening. Glenbard South has its act together now and the Bulldogs have to show they can do something against a decent opponent. Another blowout home loss could be tough to recover from, so Sly hopes the Dogs are ready to put up a fight.
Kaneland better have its chin straps on straight when it cruises out to Rochelle. If the Knights are thinking they can just play fancy football and toy with the Hubs, they'll be heading home with a losing streak. Coach Sly sees this game as a crucial one for the Knights. They have the talent, but they have to show they have the maturity and willingness to fight a physical team like the Hubs from start to finish.
Pretty juicy matchup in the Suburban Christian with Marmion going against St. Francis. We've seen our share of great rebuilding jobs in the Tri-Cities, and the job Purnell has done over at Francis ranks right up there.
It's conference time, folks. That's enough to get Sly's blood going even in a week when some of the matchups look more like appetizers than entrees.
