Cream stays atop football rankings
The top three slots remained the same in the Chronicle's Week 3 football rankings, and ditto for the bottom three.
(That one's for you, Patrick Swayze).
Meantime, there was notable movement in the middle, including Marmion's leap into the top 4. Here are the rankings in full. Once again, bring on the debates.
10. Aurora Central Catholic (0-3): Perhaps a change of scenery will reverse the Chargers' fortunes. ACC travels to Valparaiso, Ind., on Saturday to play 3-0 Michigan Lutheran.
9. Burlington Central (1-2): Imagine that. Rockets could be at .500 and poised for a playoff run entering Big Northern Conference play in Week 5.
8. St. Charles East (1-2): You can put it on the board. Saints deliver coach Mike Fields his first varsity win while snapping 0-2 skid to begin the year.
7. Batavia (1-2): Western Sun Conference title remains in sight despite a late slip against Glenbard South. The passing game still could use a makeover, though.
6. Aurora Christian (2-1): Do it all, Sheldon Magee: transfer wideout catches nine of Grayson Roberts’ 10 completions for 268 yards and two touchdowns against Chicago Christian.
5. St. Francis (2-1): Kickoff return streak runs dry just as offense does. Spartans admit they couldn't do much in home loss to Marmion.
4. Marmion (2-1): Nifty 50. Visiting Cadets beat defending IHSA Class 5A state champion St. Francis behind pair of scoring plays that started from midfield.
3. Kaneland (2-1): Jekyll-and-Hyde offense shows good side at Rochelle while defense maintains its season-long steadiness.
2. Geneva (3-0): Vikings get one scare after surviving another: defensive tackle Frank Boenzi was ejected from the Yorkville game and could miss Friday's showdown with Glenbard South.
1. St. Charles North (3-0): North Stars keep making school history while cultivating depth at running back. Senior co-captain Jordan Huxtable's return from an ankle injury should be big spark.
