Right back where they started from
Polaris would be proud.
The axis of the Chronicle's Week 7 football rankings points squarely at St. Charles North, which climbed over Geneva for the top spot after the Vikings' 24-game regular season fell to the Earth.
So does that mean the Streakin' Saints are the new No. 2? Not exactly.
Read on, and as usual, let the debates begin:
10. Aurora Central Catholic (1-6): Who says there isn't an Adams brother on this year's team? Word is the Chargers are calling in Patch to boost morale.
9. Batavia (1-6): Whether the 'Dogs sweep, split or squander their final two games, know this: the Berlin Wall still stood when last a Batavia club had three or fewer wins.
8. Burlington Central (3-4): Playoffs? It's still a possibility on Rocket Hill as the BNC East and regular seasons hit the home stretch.
7. St. Francis (5-2): No for two. Failed conversion attempt denies Spartans chance for overtime against Marian Central. What's with these clubs always keeping it close?
6. Aurora Christian (5-2): John Magee made a career out of scoring touchdowns without being touched, but it turns out this guy can be a mudder, too.
5. Kaneland (5-2): Business picks up in Maple Park. The Knights host Geneva in a game with major WSC title implications, though the sting of the Glenbard South loss isn't far behind.
4. Marmion (6-1): Cadets' breather from SCC play allows them to keep running full speed ahead. Believe it or not, the injured list is getting lighter.
3. St. Charles East (5-2): This just in: Saints' final two "home" games moved to Millenium Field, where they've won more times than at Norris Stadium.
2. Geneva (6-1): Vikings fall, but not too far. The variable keeping them from the No. 3 hole – head-to-head success against East – would play out the same if the teams met today.
1. St. Charles North (6-1): North Stars take the bite out of Neuqua Valley's offense early while raising a load of a question: which St. Charles team has the better offensive line?
