The St. Charles North at St. Charles East football game has been rescheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday at East, school officials announced late Thursday afternoon. East sports teams will be allowed to resume practice on Friday afternoon after extracurricular activities were halted Wednesday as the school closed due to excessive illness.

The school's original announcement indicated it would be a 1 p.m. kickoff but that was later revised to 2 to make time for pregame senior day festivities at 1 p.m.

Saints football coach Mike Fields was excited the matchup between the two 6-2 St. Charles rivals, originally scheduled for Friday night, will go forward. A practice is planned for Friday afternoon as the Saints look to make up for lost time in their preparations.

"The ones that have been sick, hopefully they've taken the time and taken care of themselves and are getting better," Fields said. "Now we can go and play North and finish this thing off the way we should."

East has a chance to win the Upstate Eight Conference outright this weekend with either a Lake Park loss to Bartlett or an East win against North.

"Hopefully the weather breaks and we get a big crowd out there, and it'll be a lot of fun for the community," Fields said.

Fields said pushing the game back a day is unlikely to alter his preference for playing a first-round playoff game on Friday next week if the Saints have their druthers. Playoff pairings will be released this Saturday night.

To accommodate the rescheduled football game, Saturday's 3 p.m. St. Charles East Boys Soccer Regional championship game between East and Geneva has been moved to Millennium Field in Streamwood.
