Former Mooseheart student pleads not guilty to sex abuse

ST. CHARLES – A former Mooseheart student has entered a plea of not guilty to charges that he sexually abused two of his classmates.

Abraham Mazon, 17, was arraigned in Kane County Circuit Court on Friday on charges of predatory sexual assault and aggravated sexual abuse.

Mazon is accused of assaulting and abusing two classmates younger than 13 on the grounds of the Mooseheart school. Exact dates and number of occurrences are not clear, but court documents indicate the incidents occurred between Jan 29 and Aug. 11 of this year.

Mazon was arrested and dismissed from Mooseheart Aug. 11. An investigation began July 31 when school employees received reports of the assaults.

A judge in September reduced his bail from $500,000 to $95,000, with 10 percent to apply, meaning Mazon needed to post $9,500 to be released from custody.

Mazon posted the bond and was released. As a condition of his release, he was prohibited from having contact with minors.

Court documents indicate Mazon lives in Batavia.

Mazon is scheduled to appear in court next on Jan. 14.
