Grace: A few notes on election night
Election night went smoothly for us here at The Chronicle, but – of course – there were a few bumps in the road.
The main issue was the Aurora Election Commission, which was showing different results throughout the night on its Web site and the Kane County Web site's link to its results. We thought we had the right numbers as of press time because the Web site through the Kane County link was showing that 100 percent of the vote had been counted – while the AEC Web site still wasn't reporting full results – however it turned out that there were still a few votes that needed to be added despite that supposed 100 percent tally.
As a result, our unoffical vote tallies in the paper version of The Chronicle with races involving the Aurora Election Commission are slightly off. We didn't catch our mistake until about midnight, too late to change all the stories. It didn't affect the winners, however Donald Kramer does have a bigger lead over Rob Russell in the Kane County Sheriff primary than we reported in the paper. (About a 200-vote lead rather than a 30-vote lead. Still too close to call, however, with 900 or so absentee ballots still left to count.) The numbers are correct in our Web stories.
Besides that little hiccup, though, I thought the night went well. I thoroughly enjoyed the live chat I hosted, though it got a little hectic at times trying to keep up with election results, as well. Our reporters did a great job helping me with that.
We don't have enough slots on our home page for all the election stories we wrote last night, but you can see all of election stories by clicking here.
Also, we had a few new business stories you might want to check out, as well, by clicking here.
