Batavia High School deals with death of student

BATAVIA – A crisis intervention team has been put in place at Batavia High School after the death Wednesday of a student there.

A district crisis team, including support personnel, counselors, and other resources, has been activated to address the needs of student and staff.

The student took his own life at his home Wednesday afternoon, Batavia Deputy Police Chief Gregory Thrun said.

"This was a tragic event in his own house," Thrun said.

Thursday was a partial day for Batavia High School students because of state testing. Students were dismissed at 12:15 p.m.
