Geneva water, sewer rates to rise

GENEVA – Aldermen voted 7-3 Monday in committee of the whole and at a special city council meeting to enact an ordinance to put increased water and sewer rates into effect for the May 14 billing cycle.

The 4.24 percent rate increase would cost utility customers about $21 more a year. Officials said the increase was necessary to make its bond payments on treatment facilities because of declining revenue.

First Ward Alderman Sam Hill, Third Ward Alderman Ray Pawlak and Fifth Ward Alderman Ralph Dantino voted against the increase, citing the economy.
