Coach Sly: Time to turn the tables, boys
The old saying says misery loves company, but Coach Sly isn't sure any of the Tri-Cities football teams feel any better knowing that their local rivals also took a hit on opening night. The good news is we're just a couple days from a chance for redemption.
The St. Charles schools have the most progress to make after both took a pounding last week. North has a much better shake in Week 2 with a trip to 0-1 McHenry, while East must deal with a highly regarded Naperville North team. Sly's really interested to see how those defenses respond to some ugliness the first time out.
Like St. Charles East, Batavia has a DVC foe, but West Chicago and Naperville North belong in the same league like the Yankees and the Royals do. Sly likes Batavia's chances to build off a decent showing against Marmion and pick up that first W.
Geneva has to wait to Saturday for its chance to tend to its wounded pride. Sly still thinks Geneva will eventually turn into a playoff team, but the Vikings might have to do it while digging out from a hole unless the Vikes play a great game at Gately. Geneva beat Morgan Park last year, and that game will surely be on the minds of the talented youngsters from the South Side come Saturday.
Kaneland-Huntley could end up being the best game of the week. The Knights will need to be a little sharper than they were against BC to keep the record clean heading into Week 3.
What does everyone think of these Week 2 matchups, and which Tri-Cities team(s) are most likely to dust themselves off in style?
