Sound Off: Excuses, excuses, excuses
The following is what Kane County Chronicle readers sounded off about in the past week:
Results opposite from promises
Democrats were too busy celebrating the political power monopoly they won in 2008 that they overlooked the risk that their government interventionist fanaticism would be tested in broad daylight. What’s clear is that whatever Obama/Pelosi/Foster promised to deliver with their policies, the results are always exactly the opposite. They claimed the stimulus would pump prime the economy and that it would gain momentum from government spending. The result was a temporary boost and now the economy is drifting backward. They said health care costs would be lower under their plan and instead people are starting to get sticker shock from their increased insurance premiums. The rise in the minimum wage was going to help workers, when in fact the recession has been felt the worst by less skilled workers suffering from the highest unemployment rates. They passed a credit card regulation law that was supposed to reduce fees for borrowers and now the interest rates on credit cards are the highest they’ve been in almost 10 years. The list could go on, but what’s clear is that we can’t afford to send Bill Foster back to Washington to keep implementing a false political ideology.
Living pay day from pay day
Every time I hear the news, they say eight out of 10 families live from pay day to pay day. I would like to tell you, you news reporters, that 50 years ago when we raised our family, we lived from pay day to pay day. Just tell these people, 'You will survive.' Don't waste food. Don't charge unless you can pay for it. I've never paid a service charge on a credit card. We only bought what we could afford. We ate at home. We did not take vacations. We played Scrabble with our children. The children went to a trade school and to a junior college. They all got education. There were many people like us at that time, and we survived.
Stop making excuses for Batavia football
Why does the Kane County Chronicle constantly make excuses for the Batavia High School football team, the Bulldogs, when they lose a game. My child goes to Marmion. Their football team, the Cadets, played extremely well against Batavia, keeping a hold on the Bulldogs until the last minute and a half when the Cadets scored their game-winning touchdown. The Chronicle rarely congratulates the Marmion cadets. What a shame.
Not fair for taxpayers
Yes, I'm calling about the Batavia kindergarten charging $250 a month for full-day kindergarten. Does that mean that the taxpayers have paid for the kindergarten nurse to go full time? And if so, I think that the parents in the years that kids went full day should have to pay that fee, too, to repay the school and not take it out of our taxes. Thank you.
