Aurora Christian's Hanson honored by IBCA

AURORA – Aurora Christian boys basketball coach Steve Hanson has been named the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association District 5 Coach of the Year for Class 1A/2A, the school announced Thursday.

Hanson is set to be honored April 30 at the 39th annual IBCA Hall of Fame induction dinner at Illinois State University in Bloomington.

Hanson, the Eagles' second-year coach, led the team to a riveting postseason run that saw Aurora Christian advance to within one win of its first trip to the state tournament since 1995. The Eagles (15-17) struggled through the regular season before jelling just in time for the 2A postseason, when they won titles at the Lisle Regional and Aurora Christian Sectional.

Aurora Christian fell to eventual 2A state champion Hales Franciscan in the Joliet Central Supersectional earlier this month.
