Memorial Day street closures set in St. Charles

ST. CHARLES – Several streets will be closed Monday because of the 7:30 a.m. Foot Mechanics Memorial Day Main Street Mile Race and the city’s 10 a.m. Memorial Day Parade.

For the Main Street Mile event, Main Street from 17th Street to 5th Avenue will be closed from 6:30-9 a.m.

Motorists are encouraged to use these detour routes:

• For southbound traffic on Route 31: West on State Street, northwest on Dean Street, south on North 15th Street, west on West Main Street, south on South 17th Street, east on Oak Street, north on South Seventh Street and east on Illinois Street.

• For northbound traffic on Route 31: West on Illinois Street, south on South 7th Street, west on Oak Street, north on South 17th Street, east on Main Street, north on North 15th Street, southeast on Dean Street and east on State Street.

• For eastbound traffic on Route 64: South on 17th Street to Oak Street, east on Oak Street to Seventh Street, north on Seventh Street to Illinois Street, east on Illinois Street to Fifth Avenue and north on Fifth Avenue to Route 64.

• For westbound traffic on Route 64: South on Fifth Avenue, west on Illinois Street, south on Seventh Street, west on Oak Street and north on 17th Street to Route 64.

Main Street will re-open temporarily from 9-9:45 a.m. It will be closed for the parade from 9:45-10:30 a.m. from Seventh Street to Fifth Avenue.

These detour routes have been established:

• For southbound traffic on Route 31: West on State Street, south on Seventh Street and east on Illinois Street to Route 31.

• For northbound traffic on Route 31: West on Illinois Street, north on Seventh Street and east on State Street to Route 31.

• For eastbound traffic on Main Street: South on Seventh Street, east on Illinois Street and north on Fifth Avenue to Route 64.

• For westbound traffic on Main Street: South on Fifth Avenue, west on Illinois Avenue and north on Seventh Street to Route 64.

Traffic assistance will be provided by policy and emergency management personnel during both events.

Motorists are reminded to be alert for increased pedestrian traffic and to expect delays.
