CAMPTON HILLS – Wasco Nursery and Garden Center will host a night out against breast cancer with its Pink Night for Breast Cancer Research from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the center, 41W781 Route 64.

A new pink hydrangea will be featured. A dollar from the sale of each will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, nursery owner Cheryl Monzingo said.

The evening will include pink plants, pink-themed planters, raffles, giveaways, silent auction prizes and refreshments. Among the prizes are a water color painting, sculpture and a half-day of garden work at your house from a landscape crew.

Also featured will be a pond of pink ducks where participants buy a duck and its number will correspond to a prize.

“The idea started last year with a couple of ladies nights out that went really well,” Monzingo said. “But they were more a fun time. We wanted to do something with a little more depth to it and really had some purpose behind it rather than just a fun evening.”

Also, 25 percent of pink plants sales and 10 percent of all plant sales that evening will be divided among the foundation and two local breast cancer resources, LivingWell Cancer Resource Center and The Delnor Center for Breast Health, both in Geneva, she said.

Monzinga said she is planning for about 100 people for the inaugural night, but she hopes it will become an annual event.

Those attending are encouraged to wear pink and bring friends and to use the opportunity to remember loved ones and celebrate survivors, she said.
