Coach Sly: Little of this, little of that
On the eve of semifinal Saturday, a few thoughts from Coach Sly:
1). "Technical problems" at Batavia's big pep rally on Friday plus a Geneva grad (Matt Rodewald) intimately involved with the event. Hmmmm. Sly smells some funny business.
2). Speaking of Geneva, looks like all but a done deal (again) that Burgess will have turf next year. Suppose it's for the best, but man, it's going to be strange watching the Vikes prance on fake grass those first few games.
3). Read up on some of the area hoops squads today. History tells us to exercise lots o' caution when it comes to high hardwood expectations, but it'll still be fun to see the ball go in the area for the guys next week. Already, it's been a pretty exciting start on the girls side for Batavia and East.
4). With it being state swimming weekend, Sly simply wants to salute all the area's swimmers, not just the ones that made it to state. You can make a good case that swimming is as grueling as it gets from a practice/preparation standpoint. Those girls are warriors.
5. Major props to Geneva grad Lauren Wicinski, back-to-back MAC POY as a freshman and sophomore in volleyball. And with a Batavia setter no less!
6). Needless to say, very excited to see what kind of finish to the season we get from our local gridiron powers. Should be an awesome weekend around the area - if you haven't seen these teams play yet this year, do yourself a favor and find a seat at Batavia, Kaneland or Aurora Christian before it's too late. These teams are fun to watch!
