Preps 24/7: Batavia girls hoops awaits football result to determine tournament travel

The Batavia girls basketball team is set to travel to a tournament in Morton next weekend to play two games apiece on Nov. 25-26.

That itinerary could change, however, if the school's football team advances to the Class 6A state finals in Champaign on Nov. 26.

Not only would it present a conflict for first-year basketball coach Kevin Jensen – also a defensive assistant for the football team – but the trip could compromise school spirit.

"They're going to probably want to go support that [football] team as well," Jensen said recently. "I don't know if I can ask the girls to be away from something that neat."

Jensen said the basketball team's hotel and bus accommodations already had been set, but he had been exploring early contingency plans. The 12-0 football Bulldogs host 11-1 Prairie Ridge at 1 p.m. Saturday in a state semifinal.
