Preps 24/7: Aurora Christian football headed back to state

AURORA – The Aurora Christian football team downed visiting Tolono Unity, 50-26, in a Class 3A state semifinal on Saturday to advance to next weekend's state championship.

The Eagles are set to face downstate power Mount Carmel at 4 p.m. Friday at the University of Illinois' Memorial Stadium. Mount Carmel routed Greenville, 49-19, in Saturday's other semifinal.

Aurora Christian trailed early, 14-0, and still was behind, 26-21, with 9:50 to play in the game. The Eagles will return to Champaign for the first time since 2008, when they finished as 4A runners-up to Bloomington Central Catholic.
