GENEVA – It was a bustling lunch hour Friday at Old Towne Pub and Eatery in downtown Geneva. We walked in and found the placed packed – a great sign for us, both having never been to the establishment.
We sat at a nice wooden table along the outskirts of the bar area where nice, big HD TVs were scrolling through the day’s top sports stories. Despite the infinite Internet access we have in our office, it was nice to be able to relax and watch some sports highlights during our lunch break.
After looking through the expansive menu for a few minutes, my companion and I decided to order things that were featured prominently – with pictures – on the menu. I ordered the Old Towne Pork ‘n’ Burger, consisting of the burger with a mound of Whiteford’s Pulled Pork and served with a choice of side. My companion thought my choice was fantastic – even saying he may have ordered it I didn’t order first.
Trying to mix it up, he ordered the Italian Grinder, with Genoa salami, capicola ham, pepperoni and provolone cheese topped with lettuce, tomato, onion and Italian dressing, served warm with hot peppers.
The service was fantastic and everything was delivered in a timely fashion.
After receiving our meals, both my companion and I were happy with the portions of each item. My companion said the size of his sandwich was great but not too huge where it would be impossible to take bites out if. The vegetables on the sandwich where very fresh – he said the tomatoes were some of the best he’s had in quite awhile. He said the restaurant did a good job of adding to the taste of the sandwich without overpowering it.
Meanwhile, my sandwich was out of this world. The combination of pulled pork and burger is not one you’ll find on the menu at most restaurants, which is something that intrigued me when placing my order. The burger was cooked to perfection while the pork was full of flavor. The barbecue sauce added the perfect amount of smoky flavor without taking over the taste of the burger. There are options to add additional items to the sandwich, including cheese.
Combined with the atmosphere, the food delighted both of us as the restaurant provided the perfect lunch escape during a busy Friday. We both left Old Towne feeling very full and excited to have such a terrific lunch at one of downtown Geneva’s bar and grill staples.
