Coach Sly: Finishing gets it started
That whole "Not how you start, but how you finish" business gets its share of repetition this time of year.
Sly's going to tap into the phrase on this night with good reason. Why? Because it's true.
Across the girls basketball board, we saw it on Friday. Batavia lulled early against Larkin before winning by 25. Kaneland snapped out of a funk to pull things out at Sycamore. Aurora Christian responded from first-half struggles to force free basketball, then won in OT at Marian Central.
Of course, things work both ways. St. Charles North trailed by a point at Streamwood entering the fourth quarter before it was outscored, 13-3, down the stretch.
It's not how you start, it's...
Wrestlers know the saying all too well in a sport that builds toward performances in January and February. Still, it doesn't hurt to be rolling in December, and St. Charles East and Geneva certainly are doing that, shaping up for a UEC River grudge match later this season.
Speaking of rivalries, Kaneland nearly knocked off DeKalb on Friday, but was unable to hold a 24-11 lead.
At this point, you probably know what Sly's going to say next...
Have a good weekend, all.
