Athletes busy on national signing day

Wednesday's national signing day was a far more interactive experience than in 2011.

Remember when the aftermath of "Snowmageddon" affected athletes' paths to faxing their letters of intent?

On a mild morning, afternoon or evening – depending upon the campus – Chronicle-area schools held much more accessible ceremonies Wednesday. Families, friends, coaches and administrators were on hand to celebrate the rites of passage with student-athletes.

"Just getting more and more excited," said Geneva's Ben Rogers, a Cornell football recruit. "It seems crazy that high school is winding down, but I'm excited about the opportunity. Today was very cool. It's cool to have some of the teachers there that made this possible for me, who have known me since I was born."

Rogers was one of seven Geneva seniors to sign a letter of intent. Check out Thursday's Kane County Chronicle for more stories and photos of athletes' college decisions.
