Prep roundup St. Francis boys basketball downs Marian
WOODSTOCK – St. Francis took care of business on the road Friday night with a 61-42 victory over Marian Central in a Suburban Christian Conference Blue boys basketball game.
Brian Spahn and Ryan Coyle scored 16 points each as the Spartans (16-5, 6-2 SCC Blue) led wire-to-wire and were never seriously challenged by the Hurricanes.
“I’m happy with our effeciency against their [2-3] zone,” Spartans coach Bob Ward said. “We’re a very unselfish team. We play hard and we’re a good defensive team.”
Kaneland 52, Rochelle 51: At Maple Park, Kaneland closed the Northern Illinois Big 12 East and regular season with an inadvertent nail-biter. After taking an 18-4 lead after one quarter, the Knights trailed in the closing seconds before Emma Bradford’s two free throws with 1.2 seconds left provided the winning points.
“Our kids hung in there. Emma stepped up, and we were able to pull one out by executing down the stretch,” Knights coach Ernie Colombe said.
Bradford finished with nine points for the Knights (17-9, 7-3 NI Big 12 East). Ashley Prost (13) and Ally O’Herron (12) finished in double figures.
