SUGAR GROVE – A 32-year-old Sugar Grove man died Tuesday night after he shot himself in his vehicle near Mill Creek Market, a Kane County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said.

Lt. Pat Gengler said sheriff’s deputies assisted Montgomery and Sugar Grove police trying to find a reportedly suicidal man.

Sugar Grove police spokesman John Sizer said a call came from the man’s fiancee, who said the man threatened to take his life and left his Sugar Grove residence.

The man was found at 11:38 a.m. in his vehicle at Herrington Boulevard and North Mill Creek Drive, Gengler said.

Deputies attempted to negotiate with the man and get him to leave his vehicle, but he refused. After a few minutes, the man suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Gengler said.

Deputies administered first aid, and the man was taken to Delnor Hospital in Geneva, he said.

Police are not releasing the man’s name, Gengler said.
