Pat McNamara made it a coaching triple play for Aurora parochial schools when he was named boys basketball coach at Aurora Christian on Wednesday.
McNamara, 57, spent the past three seasons as an Aurora Central Catholic assistant under Nate Drye. He served as Marmion head coach from 2002-03 to 2006-07 after a three-season stint at Plano.
"Nate and I have got a good relationship," McNamara said. "We've coached against each other before for a number of years, and it should be a lot of fun to do again."
McNamara succeeds Steve Hanson, who elected to step down after guiding the Eagles to a 40-43 record in three seasons. His tenure included a run to the Class 2A supersectionals in 2010-11. Hanson is nearing the completion of his master's degree at Aurora University in June, McNamara said, and is interested in pursuing an administrative position.
McNamara works in real estate investment and has a senior daughter, Maggie, at Aurora Christian.
"It's a real faith-based school and I'm excited about getting involved with the basketball team," McNamara said. "I think Steve Hanson did a great job of geting the program where it is right now."
