Open house for village plan set in Campton Hills
CAMPTON HILLS – Community members have voiced their hopes for Campton Hills’ future for a year, and Monday, they’ll get a chance to say whether their priorities were reflected in a draft of the village’s comprehensive plan.
Drafts of the document, along with poster boards summarizing the highlights, will be available for review from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Wasco Elementary School, 4N782 School St.
“We feel that we have pretty adequately reflected what we’ve been hearing and also set forth the policies that will achieve what the village wants to achieve,” said Jason Navota, a senior planner with the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning.
CMAP helped the village with the comprehensive plan process through its local technical assistance program.
“We’re just facilitating the process,” Navota said. “The plan itself comes from the village residents and village leadership.”
The comprehensive plan will guide future decisions affecting the village.
Nine themes came out of the public’s input and are the recommendation areas of the draft plan, he said. They are community character; open space and natural resources; water resources; food and farming; mixed-use centers; quality homes and neighborhoods; transportation and accessibility; community services, facilities and infrastructure; and managed change.
Monday will be the community’s last chance to provide feedback in an informal setting. A state-required public hearing is set for June 25 at the Plan Commission, Navota said. He said village trustees are expected to adopt the document this summer.
Because the draft is nearly 75 pages long, Navota recommends people review a copy before the open house, where they can provide feedback on comment cards. Comprehensive plan documents are available at the village’s website, www.villageofcamptonhills.org.
