St. Charles East sophomore sprinter Jordan Shead was a double medalist at the IHSA Class 3A Girls Track and Field state meet this past weekend. The Saints standout was part of East’s fifth-place 4x400-meter relay and took seventh in the individual 400, earning a nod as the St. Charles Bank & Trust Kane County Chronicle Athlete of the Week. Chronicle sports reporter Kevin Druley caught up with Shead about her efforts. The following is an edited transcript:
What did you think of your weekend overall?
I’m really happy with how it turned out. I think it all turned out really well, and we’re really excited about the relay. ... It was really a good experience. There was a lot of tough competition, and it was a little intimidating, but we all had a good time, so it was good.
You played AAU Lady Lightning basketball during track season. How do the sports complement one another?
They really do help each other. In basketball, it allows me to be really quick and a better athlete. For track, it’s just that extra conditioning that never hurts.
What’s your toughest upcoming final exam?
Probably honors chemistry. .. There’s a lot to know.
How about your favorite sports movie?
I don’t think I have one. ... I really like “Transformers” and “Crazy, Stupid, Love” as regular movies.
