Batavia man pleads guilty in Subway, Super 8 robberies
ST. CHARLES TOWNSHIP – A Batavia man has pleaded guilty to a string of armed robberies at several Kane County businesses.
Douglas E. Kelley, 27, of the 1100 block of Lorlyn Circle, Batavia, on Friday agreed to a sentence of 20 years in jail in exchange for a guilty plea to three counts of armed robbery, each a felony.
Circuit Judge Timothy Q. Sheldon accepted the plea.
At about 8:40 p.m. Nov. 23, 2011, Kelley entered the Subway restaurant on Randall Road in Batavia. He revealed a black handgun to an employee and demanded cash, and then fled with approximately $600.
At about 8:10 p.m. Nov. 28, 2011, Kelley entered the Subway restaurant on Randall Road in North Aurora. He revealed a black handgun to an employee and demanded cash, and then fled with about $300 in cash.
At about 2:30 a.m. Dec. 29, 2011, Kelley entered the Super 8 motel in St. Charles. He revealed a black handgun to an employee and demanded cash, and fled with approximately $400.
Kelley is eligible for day-for-day sentencing.
Unrelated to the plea agreement, Kelley also is being charged in January's robbery of the Elgin State Bank in Elgin.
