Judge asked to appoint counsel for chairman

GENEVA – Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon has asked a judge to appoint someone from outside the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office to represent the county’s chief executive in a lawsuit that alleges she violated county code.

Thursday, Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Joseph Lulves, acting on behalf of McMahon, filed documents with Kane County Judge Thomas Mueller officially requesting he name lawyer Claudette Miller, of the Chicago firm of Ungaretti & Harris, to represent Kane County Board Chairman Karen McConnaughay in the litigation.

The lawsuit was brought against McConnaughay in 2010 by Elburn resident James MacRunnels, who ran unsuccessfully against McConnaughay in the 2008 Republican primary for the Kane County Board chairman’s office.
