Santo celebration set at the Arcada

ST. CHARLES – Ron Onesti said he was such a big fan of Ron Santo that he refused to join a Little League team when he learned he couldn’t wear the No. 10 that Santo made famous with the Cubs.

Thrilled that his hero is now in the Baseball Hall of Fame, Onesti wanted to do something to celebrate. As the owner of the Arcada Theatre in downtown St. Charles, he was in a position to do that. Today, the Arcada will welcome Santo family members for special director’s cut screenings of the film “This Old Cub.”

Presentations are set for 5 and 7:30 p.m., with the movie’s director – Santo’s son, Jeff – on hand. The movie focuses on Ron Santo’s playing days and his battle with diabetes. Ron Santo died in December 2010.
