Courtroom cameras group talks notice, Sept. trial

SYCAMORE – Discussions continued Wednesday on the 16th Judicial Circuit’s plans for implementing cameras in courtrooms, as the courtroom media committee expressed interest in seeing how another circuit will handle media coverage of a trial.

Officials with the 16th Judicial Circuit – which includes DeKalb, Kane and Kendall counties – announced in May the circuit would apply for the Illinois Supreme Court’s pilot program to allow cameras into courtrooms during trials, but the courtroom media committee first must draft local rules.

The committee previously broke into groups tasked with looking into how media could request to be present during court proceedings, the process of notifying all parties that media will be present, and technical processes inside the courtroom.
