Dress up for church
I'd like to add my thoughts to the ongoing discussion about what is proper attire to be worn at church. There is a footnote in my study Bible, dealing with parts of Exodus. It says, "Outward preparation to meet God symbolizes the inward consecration God requires of his people." That means you should dress properly to show respect for God.
Yes, stop talking
This is in response to "Stop Talking So Much." Shut up.
Essential cellphones
I'm calling about "Stop Talking So Much." I agree. Fifteen years ago, what would we do without a cellphone? Many of us could not afford it. But now it is a necessity, especially in the car and especially when you are driving by yourself. Yes, we live in St. Charles area, but most of our friends and relatives do not live here, so you are driving an hour to two hours. And driving, by yourself, you need a cellphone. Yes, I would like to stop hearing about people's conversations in Jewel. "Hon, what kind of veggies should I get?" Discuss that at home. But I have seen seniors, like myself, being on a cellphone, not while driving. Folks, it's not easy living alone, and it's sometimes very lonely. But life goes on. Next time when you see someone, smile or say hello. They might need it.
Crosswalk at the mall?
I have a comment about the Charlestowne Mall. If you are trying to cross Route 64 on foot from 38th Avenue, it's next to impossible. There needs to be a crosswalk somewhere on Route 64 to make it safer.
Smaller packaging, same price
I don't know who the manufacturers think they're fooling. They are giving us smaller packaging for the same price or more. For example, sugar four pounds, not five, 20 cans of soda instead of 24, smaller cereal boxes, and so on and so on.
Obama vs. George Bush
Recent TV ads by a PAC to re-elect President Obama shows an unemployed steelworker who blames Romney and Bain Capital for closing a money-losing steel factory and the loss of his health insurance. His wife then cancels her health insurance, gets cancer and dies for lack of health insurance. The ad implies Romney caused the death of this steelworker's wife for lack of health insurance. How many individuals and families lost health insurance when Obama took control of General Motors and Chrysler, forced closings of manufacturing plants like Janesville, Wis., and forced auto dealers to close? Did any of these families and individuals get cancer? And are they still not covered by health insurance? Obama has done more in his three years in office to destroy the middle class and capitalism than the person he is running against, George Bush.
Mall suggestion
I wasn't able to attend the mall meeting. My suggestion would be to see if we couldn't make it an extension of the premium outlet mall in Aurora. Same exit from Interstate 88, only nine miles north. That mall always seems to have people there, especially on weekends. It's a beautiful mall, and believe, and hope, that indoor malls will make a comeback. I prefer to shop that way.
