Sound familiar? East girls v'ball braces for Benet

Text Size: AaAaAaAaAa

The St. Charles East girls volleyball team will encounter some familiar faces during tonight's season opener.

The Saints are set to begin play at defending Class 4A state champion Benet, facing a Redwings team that defeated them three times in 2011. In the teams' most recent meeting, the Redwings secured a spot in the state championship match by topping the Saints in a semifinal at Illinois State's Redbird Arena.

"You know what, it's just an opportunity to see where we are, and why not start with one of the best?" East coach Jennie Kull said. "It'll be nice – hopefully nice. I hope we're going to compete well. We'll see what happens. You never know until you step in against competition."

Both sides have graduated several key players entering 2012.

Batavia is slated to visit Benet in late September.

What do you think of people using fireworks near their homes?

That shouldn't be tolerated. It's dangerous.
I'd never do it, but I'll watch others.
It's OK so long as the fireworks are legal.
It's not a problem. It's just a way to celebrate.
I have no opinion.
