I truly believe that sports teams, particularly high school teams, are like family.
I was there Wednesday as Assistant Coach Samantha Vanderheyden announced to the Batavia High School girls cross country that Head Coach Chad Hillman's wife had given birth to a baby boy that day.
Most of the girls swarmed Vanderheyden as she glanced at her iPhone with the text announcement and then they all erupted in cheers as she read off the baby's gender, name and measurements.
