Ready or not, it's already time for Tri-Cities football teams to start gearing up for their biggest games of the season, at least from an emotional standpoint.
Batavia hosts Geneva and North welcomes East, both in Week 3, in a quirky bit of scheduling.
Sly thinks both of these games are likely to be closer than some might suspect.
Batavia-Geneva is the game that you'd think could get ugly. Maybe it will, but Sly's not ready to leave the Vikings for dead just yet. Geneva made a little progress from Week 1 to Week 2 and you know the Vikings will have a megachip on their shoulder for this one, knowing many people are expecting the 'Dogs to take them to the woodshed.
But the Vikings' defense is going to have its hands full with Batavia, and the Vikes haven't yet shown they can score enough to win shootouts like they have the past couple years.
East has gotta be the favorite in the STC matchup, coming off a big win against West High. After all, North has scored a grand total of seven points all season.
But Sly expects this to be a close one, too. East's running game took a pretty big hit with the injury to its No. 1 tailback on Friday, and North's defense has been pretty darn solid so far.
Throw in that North, like Geneva, has its back up against the wall, big-time, in coach Gould's last year no less, and you'd think the Saints will really have to earn this one if they're going to win on the Stars' field.
What do you fine folks think? Any upsets in the rivarly games, or will Batavia and East lay down the law?
