GENEVA – The Geneva boys golf team took full advantage of home course advantage Thursday to hand St. Charles North its first dual meet loss of the season, 145-150.

“In high school golf, you’ve got to take care of your business at home,” Geneva coach Bill Koehn said. “That’s so important. We play on this golf course a lot.”

Four Vikings shot 38 or lower over nine holes at Mill Creek, led by medalist Pat Cuscaden with an even-par 35. Cuscaden parred every hole.

“Not a lot went wrong,” he said. “I missed about two greens. I just tried to make up-and-downs. I putted really well. It was just a solid day.”

That sort of consistency from Cuscaden bodes well for Geneva (7-1, 4-1) as the Upstate Eight Conference River race heads into the home stretch.

“We’ve been waiting for him to kind of step it up,” Koehn said. “He struggled a little bit here early on. Hopefully now we get him back on track and see if he can build on tonight’s performance. We need him. He’s a very important part of our group.”

Geneva’s Dan Cisco and Colin Lillibridge were both just one stroke behind Cuscaden and Brett Hassels also counted in the team score with a 38.

Raghav Cherala led North with a 36.

“We’ve got a lot of respect for Geneva’s program and their coach and players,” North coach Rob Prentiss said. “They all grew up on this golf course, so it certainly was to their advantage to play here. But, no excuses, we played pretty well, too –145, 150 are pretty good scores for high school golf.”

Dan Shepherd shot a 37 for the North Stars, one stroke better than teammate Ryan Dal Degan. Anthony Butir rounded out North's scoring with a 39.
