Athlete of the Week

Kane County Chronicle Athlete of the Week: St. Charles East's Joe Hoscheit

Why he was selected: Hoscheit rushed for two touchdowns and added a receiving TD in the Saints' 23-13 win at St. Charles North on Friday.

St. Charles East football coach Mike Fields often says the Saints go as senior fullback/linebacker Joe Hoscheit does. Friday's crosstown classic game at St. Charles North was no different. Hoscheit starred defensively while scoring each of East's three touchdowns in a 23-13 win, helping the team go over .500 for the first time since the end of the 2009 season and also earning a nod as the St. Charles Bank & Trust-Kane County Chronicle Athlete of the Week. Chronicle sports reporter Kevin Druley caught up with Hoscheit about his performance. The following is an edited transcript:

Talk about your stamina and how you keep going.
Just trying my hardest and working hard every play. Taking a break when I need to and not overworking myself so I can do the best for my team.

What put you guys over the top against North?
I think it was a combination of getting better throughout the first two weeks. ... I think we fixed a lot of the mistakes we saw on film in this game. Even though we have some more to fix, it's still good to see progression.

What's your hardest class this semester?
I'd say AP Calculus. Its a tough one.

What's your favorite sports movie?
"Remember the Titans." I think it's an awesome movie about the game of football and how the two sides came together to become a great team.
