Public hearing set on Geneva draft plan

Published: Friday, Sept. 21, 2012 5:30 a.m. CDT

GENEVA – A public hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at the Geneva City Hall Council Chambers, 109 James St., Geneva, to consider a draft plan of the Downtown/Station Area Master Plan as an amendment to the adopted Geneva Comprehensive Plan.

The Geneva Plan Commission will conduct the hearing. All people who desire to be heard will have the opportunity to submit statements verbally and in writing.

Public comment on the plan was received during and after the June 27 public information meeting by the Downtown Master Plan Committee. The committee modified the draft plan in response to those comments.

The draft plan is available on the city’s website, www.geneva.il.us/whatsup.htm. The plan also is available for public inspection in hard copy during regular business hours in the Community Development Department at City Hall.

The draft plan provides recommendations for downtown. The process included identifying needs, goals and objectives; an inventory of existing conditions; analysis of market potential; citizen and business ideas; and alternative plans.

The resulting plan presents a long-range vision for the downtown that will serve as the official policy guide for future downtown land use and development decisions.
