So we've passed the halfway mark of the regular season now, and Week 5 was mighty revealing in figuring out what's what in terms of the playoffs.
Want to break form and start out talking some SCC football, namely the Aurora schools.
Aurora Central Catholic is going to go to the playoffs, gentlemen. Mind you, last time the Chargers were postseason-bound, the current players were rocking burp cloths. It's not official quite yet but at 4-1 and with a few very winnable games left on the slate, it's looking like we've got a developing story on our hands in Charger Land.
Elsewhere in Aurora, what can you say about the defending state champion ACS Eagles, other than it's looking very promising for another such feat this season. When you're good enough to smack around a 5A playoff team like St. Francis, without one of your elite players, how can anyone in 3A be expected to get in their way?
Pretty gallant effort by Marmion tonight, but at 1-4 and with the aforementioned Eagles on deck, looking like lights-out for the Cadets.
OK, time to salute the Red Gate Roaders for a big win against Geneva. Coach Gould has taken over the defense this year and that 'D' did him proud on Friday night in clamping down on Geneva. Sly's guessing North's playoff fate is going to go all the way to the wire on Week 9 against South Elgin, which would be a tough assignment for the North Stars. But there is most certainly hope now for North.
As for Geneva ... ouch. At 1-4 and struggling mightily, it's hard to imagine this ending well for the Vikings.
Real nice win for Batavia. Those guys stay composed in tight games and combined with a heckuva lot of talent, another 9-0 is well within their reach. Also very fine work by the Kaneland Knights, who seem to be getting better by the week, which will come in handy with Sycamore and Morris looming late.
