ELBURN – For the first time in 22 years, Elburn leaders are updating their comprehensive plan, seeking residents' opinions about the kind of community they want the village to be in the future.

The public is invited to attend a visioning workshop from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Elburn Lions Club, 500 S. Filmore St.

Already, the village has hosted an open house, a senior workshop, a business owner workshop and two student workshops in connection with the comprehensive plan, village administrator Erin Willrett said.

She said participation in those events were low. She hopes more people attend tonight's event because, she said, more input means the village can better shape what Elburn should look like for the next generation.

"We always say it's the residents' plan," Willrett said. "This is the time for them to really collaborate."

The summer's events focused on existing conditions, she said. She said the workshop will get more into what residents would like to see. Attendees should expect an interactive evening that involves looking at photographs of different places and saying what they like and don't like about the images, Willrett said.

Residents who cannot attend the workshop are welcome to complete a survey on the village's website, www.elburn.il.us.

Elburn began the process of updating its comprehensive plan in May, Willrett said, noting the project is expected to be completed in March.

The 20-year plan will serve as a land use and development guide assisting the village with policy decisions and achieving its long-term vision.

This is the first update to Elburn's comprehensive plan since it was created in 1990, Willrett said.
