To the Editor:

Having lived in St. Charles for over 55 years, I have witnessed and worked with many of our mayors as a resident and a business owner. This is a job that requires significant time commitment, efficiency, great people skills, wisdom and heart. Mayor Don DeWitte has given tremendous amounts of these talents to us.  

When I read that Mayor DeWitte would not be running again for mayor, I felt an immediate loss. As the compensation is almost token for the amount of his commitment, my first thought is where will we find another individual to fill his shoes? Who has the resources to give the time, without true compensation, with the same energy and focus? Whomever you are, best wishes for the gift to our community.
