Kaneland wide receiver Dylan Nauert runs down field Friday in the Knights' 66-23 victory over DeKalb.

MAPLE PARK – Kaneland’s offense was rolling Friday night against DeKalb, and the success started early.

The Knights scored three touchdowns on their first 11 plays, and Kaneland scored on its first six possessions in a 66-23 win.

Kaneland moves to 6-0 and 2-0 in the Northern Illinois Big 12 East while DeKalb falls to 1-5 and 0-2 in conference play.

Knights starting quarterback Drew David was 7-for-14 passing for 209 yards and four touchdown passes. Wide receiver Dylan Nauert had 128 yards and two touchdowns while Jesse Balluff ran for 162 yards and two touchdowns.

Zack Martinelli caught Kaneland’s first touchdown of the game, a 20-yard strike from David. The Barbs got the momentum right back, as Dylan Hottsmith took the ensuing kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown.

Nauert gave the Knights the lead again with a 60-yard touchdown catch from David, and Kaneland gained more momentum when Dre Brown lost a fumble on the team’s first play from scrimmage. The Knights responded with a Nate Dyer 4-yard touchdown run, and it was all Kaneland from there.

The Knights closed out the first-half scoring with a 14-yard touchdown run by Balluff, an 8-yard touchdown scamper from David, an 18-yard touchdown pass from David to Nauert, and a 43-yard field goal by Matt Rodriguez.

DeKalb got its second score on a 4-yard touchdown pass from Jack Sauter to Drew Paszotta in the third quarter. Jake Carpenter had an 80-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter to close out the scoring for the Barbs.

The Knights’ defense was able to bottle up Brown early. The DeKalb sophomore ran for 64 yards on 15 carries, and was held to just 2 yards in the first half. Often, Brown, who missed last week’s win over Streator because of a concussion, just had nowhere to run.

Sauter finished 11-for-19 passing for 140 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
