Shaw Media has purchased Suburban Life publications, formerly part of GateHouse Media. In addition to the Kane County Chronicle, we now publish The Republicans, serving St. Charles, Geneva and Batavia. This acquisition also adds newspapers, websites and other specialty products that serve DuPage, Will, McHenry and Cook counties.

What does this announcement mean for subscribers of the Kane County Chronicle? What changes can be expected for readers of the St. Charles, Geneva and Batavia Republicans? What will this mean for our advertisers and the community?

Our purpose is to make the communities we serve better places to live. We do this by providing the best community newspapers, websites and specialty products we can offer. Through news, information, photos and videos, we strive to gather and share anything that is of interest to our readers. Print continues to be a key platform; however, our audience is larger than ever because of digital readership on websites, smartphones and tablets.

Shaw Media is focused on three basic principles that define our actions: deliver relevant information to our readers, provide effective marketing solutions to our business partners, and be advocates for the communities we serve. These concepts have served us well over the past 161 years and will continue to guide us.

For Kane County Chronicle subscribers, you will continue to receive your newspaper Tuesday through Saturday. Our free Monday e-Edition is available at KCChronicle.com.

For readers of The Republicans, we will find ways to improve and add local content, such as increased information about local events and entertainment.

For our business partners, I trust those of you who have worked with us have found us to be committed to helping your business grow.

We know the challenges of small business; we know the market; and we know how to deliver results. The combination of the Kane County Chronicle and The Republicans presents great new opportunities to our business partners.

For the community at large, we are proud to serve central Kane County. We partner with more than 100 local nonprofits, events and charities to reinforce and strengthen our community. If you are trying to improve some aspect of your neighborhood, maybe we can help.

If something is important to you, let us know about it. If you have a picture you are proud of and want to share it, send it to us. If we missed something, call us with the details.
