NORTH AURORA – The community is invited to attend Mutual Ground’s 2012 Domestic Violence Awareness Vigil at 6:30 p.m. today to be hosted by the North Aurora Police Department, 200 S. Lincolnway.

“We are so grateful to the North Aurora Police for agreeing to host this year’s Light the Night Vigil,” Michelle Meyer, executive director of Mutual Ground, said in a news release. “It pleases us to know that North Aurora takes domestic violence seriously and is open to working together to address the issue.”

North Aurora Police Chief David Summer said the department was pleased to work with Mutual Ground to bring attention to the problem of domestic violence.

“Police are often the first responders to these types of incidents,” Summer said. “Through a support system of agencies, we are able to help victims of domestic violence.”

This is the first event of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which is held in October of each year. Information is available by calling Mutual Ground at 630-897-0084, or online at www.mutualground.org.
