This week, International Walk to School Da
This week, International Walk to School Day took place, and several Tri-City communities took part in encouraging parents and their children to walk together to school. The event started in the United States in 1997 and went international with the inclusion of Canada and the United Kingdom in 2000.
I sounded like my grandmother telling stories of yore as I heard myself say out loud, “Every day was International Walk to School Day for me.” Up hill, both ways, and in the snow.
I walked to school every single day from the first day of kindergarten until I talked my mom into giving me rides to high school. I actually loved walking because it gave me time with my best friend. She was in a different grade, so we never saw each other during the school day.
