CAMPTON HILLS – A new flier opposing the proposed addiction treatment center at the former Glenwood site is being circulated, and although it does not name an author, Abe Andrzejewski said it is not anonymous because he is handing it out to people.
Kiva Recovery is seeking to locate in to Campton Hills and needs a special-use permit for an addiction treatment facility at the former school site, 41W400 Silver Glen Road, Campton Township.
The proposal from Kiva Recovery Center is up for a public hearing Oct. 22, but a location large enough to hold a big crowd has not been found. Previously, the meeting was held at a local church, but the church and local schools are booked for that night, said Christine Brauer, a member of the plan commission.
Andrzejewski is against the plans.
“We feel like siting one of the state’s largest for-profit drug rehab centers in the middle of a quiet rural community is a huge break with residential expectations,” Andrzejewski said. “And we think that facilities like that belong next to major medical centers like hospitals and in communities in more urban settings that have more experience with these issues and larger municipal staffs.”
Andrzejewski said an earlier anonymous flier that was put in mailboxes was not his.

“I am passing this out, not putting it in mailboxes,” Andrzejewski said. “I am not distributing it anonymously to anybody. I’m giving it to people I talk to. I have been giving that to people who are signing a petition [against it]. We have 400 to 500 people at this point.”
Kiva has agreed to put up a fence to keep the public out, not patients in. The private facility will treat high-profile clients able to pay $30,000 a month.
“We have been asked to do it, and we agreed to do that,” said Phil Kosanovich, executive vice president and CEO of Kiva Recovery. “Any facilities like ours that have a fence is to keep the public out, given the potential high profile of our people. That is why we are comfortable to do so.”
Campton Hills Trustee John Strauss said the Kiva proposal will go to the Village Board after the plan commission makes a recommendation.
“I have has talked to people on both sides of the issue. People have been to my house, as I am an available trustee,” Strauss said. “I reserve the right to remain totally neutral on this until it comes to the board, and I will have to say yea or nay. Some people are for it, some are against it, and both sides believe they have legitimate reasons. But four trustees will decide in the end – or maybe the vote will be unanimous.”
