Some festival rides temporarily deflated, to be back up tomorrow

ST. CHARLES – Four inflatable rides temporarily were deflated Friday afternoon during Scarecrow Fest when police were notified that the rides' inspection stickers were expired.

Steve Rhea, an employee for AMJ Spectacular Events in Melrose Park, said three obstacle courses and a haunted house were deflated about 4 p.m. because safety inspection stickers were from 2011.

He said the company carries several duplicates of inflatable rides, and rides don't require inspection stickers at private parties, but for events such as Scarecrow Fest, rides are required to have stickers as proof that they had been annually inspected.

Rhea said when the rides were pulled from inventory, the rides without stickers ended up at the festival.

He said he didn't know where the sticker was located on one of the rides that had been deflated, but when the sticker was found, it was valid, so that ride was re-inflated Friday.

The other three rides would be replaced with stickers by Saturday, he said.
