Aurora Christian football cruises to win

AURORA – A monster first half propelled the Aurora Christian football team to a 47-20 Suburban Christian Conference crossover victory against Immaculate Conception on Friday night.

The Eagles (7-0) had 215 yards passing and 122 yards on the ground in the first half, racking up five touchdowns in the process.

Coach Don Beebe’s squad piled up 355 yards of offense and 35 points before the first half was over, showcasing the offense’s versatility of talent both throwing and running with the football.

“Ryan McQuade is leading the area in touchdowns and yardage, and rushing-wise Joel Bouagnon or Brandon Mayes can go for 100 on any given night,” Beebe about his team’s balance on offense.

Aurora Christian connected on seven plays for 20 or more yards in the first half, which helped generate a 35-7 lead at halftime. Immaculate Conception (4-3) only had one, a 26-yard touchdown by junior Randy Leslie with 9:51 left in the second.

The Eagles’ Cory Windle got the scoring started with two acrobatic touchdown catches in the first quarter for the Eagles, the first of which was a graceful, sliding one-hander from 9 yards out. The second was a jump ball with two IC defenders draped on him from 20 yards out.

Both passes were delivered with pinpoint accuracy from McQuade. McQuade accounted for 215 yards throwing and two touchdowns. After throwing an early second quarter interception, McQuade guided the offense down the field, responding with an 80-yard, 4 minute touchdown drive resulting in a 1-yard touchdown run by running back Victor Roza.

Bouagnon also chipped in for 180 yards and three touchdowns.

The Eagles take their unbeaten record into a showdown of two defending state champions next week at Montini.
