District 304 meetings include contract talks, 2013 levy

GENEVA – Geneva School District 304 officials are scheduled to hear presentations about Red Ribbon Week activities and have a closed session to discuss collective bargaining, personnel and pending litigation this week, according to its agenda posted on its website, www.geneva304.org.

The regular meeting is at 7 p.m. today at Coutrap, 1333 Peyton St. The board also is expected to discuss the high school program of study and approve a resolution in support of Red Ribbon Week. Jerel Waide, Geneva Coalition for Youth and Student Services director, and Students Against Destructive Decisions will make presentations.

School officials are in contract talks with the Geneva Education Association, nearing the third month without a contract because the old contract expired Aug. 15. For the past several meetings, teachers have spoken out, urging board members to come to a fair contract resolution. The two sides have been in talks since February and in mediation since July.

What do you think of people using fireworks near their homes?

That shouldn't be tolerated. It's dangerous.
I'd never do it, but I'll watch others.
It's OK so long as the fireworks are legal.
It's not a problem. It's just a way to celebrate.
I have no opinion.
