St. Charles 'Price is Right' contestant wins big

ST. CHARLES – Anyone who tuned in to "The Price is Right" on Wednesday morning probably caught St. Charles resident Dan Hagberg winning big.

He was chosen to "come on down" as a contestant for the show when he and a few friends decided to head to the Los Angeles studio while on vacation in June.

Hagberg, 23, got on stage with host Drew Carey following the bidding round, where contestants guessed the price of a Canon camera. With a bid of $1, Hagberg was the only one who didn't guess more than the actual cost of the camera, which ended up being his first prize.

He said it was convenient because he had lost his camera three days before the show while in Las Vegas.

Once he was on stage, a seven-day cruise through the Mediterranean was at stake – as long as he guessed the right price. He was responsible for stopping a dial at the right number while it moved through a range of prices.

Hagberg said he was about $10 off when he guessed the price of the cruise, which was valued around $11,600. He won a trip for two through the Mediterranean, which Hagberg said he plans to take sometime next summer. While he's been to the United Kingdom, he has yet to visit Italy.

He and his roommates tuned into the show when it aired Wednesday morning, and he said his friends ended up getting some face time during the show, too.

"I didn't do anything terribly embarrassing, which is good," he said. "It was definitely a pretty cool experience."

Hagberg also had a chance to win a Ford Mustang when it came to spinning the wheel. He said he thought he did pretty well when he got 80 cents, but another contestant ended up spinning 95 cents – the closest number without going over $1.

Though he missed out on the car, he's looking forward to taking a vacation after getting through the busiest time of the year with his storage business for college students.

"I'll reward myself with a vacation," he said.
